I'd like to take a moment to show my respect and appreciation to Pope Francis this week for his open letter of apology to all members of the RC Church towards the crimes of abuse committed towards children, young people and the disabled by Roman Catholic Priests.
It's times like these that actually do fill us with hope that times are changing.
This is a momentous act that I wholeheartedly hope is the first step in leading the way to change!
For too many years people in positions of trust at high levels have abused our children leading to catastrophic damage to the victims and their families. We battle every day against a system full of corruption and for the Roman Catholic Church to hold up their hands and take ownership for their failings should be celebrated and used as a bar for all other agencies/departments/governments to follow suit!
Pope Francis states,
we showed no care for the little ones; we abandoned them...wounds that will never go away.
Such words echo throughout our cause every day. He then supports this with a realisation of their own ignorance towards the effects of the abuse. A blind eye, naivety or denial perhaps but a realisation all the same now stating,
we did not act in a timely manner, realising the magnitude and the gravity of the damage done to so many lives.
His key message which mirrors our very plea to our own government and police for the corruption we face within the UK today, stating to all that now we must
open our ears to the hushed pain felt by children, supporting all the judicial measures that may be necessary.
For those of you that do not know the background, this is the result of a formal conclusive report, 1300 pages long, in the United States where over 1000 children were sexually abused by 301 RC Priests in Pennsylvania over the past 70 years.
Corruption: the dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery.
Our children are our future and any acts of corruption and or violence MUST be held accountable with the highest levels of custodial sentencing in my opinion. In addition, any cases where it is found that the perpetrator holds a position of trust must face additional sentencing. It is simply unacceptable to all of us for this not to be the case. The victims, their families and the people! We recently heard of the example case G. Hodgkiss where Judge Baxter provided a 20 month suspended sentence to a man found guilty of sexual communication, intention to meet and possession of Category A materials of a very distressing nature, that same man who worked at our very own home office! I believe Pope Francis' open letter demonstrates how it's situations such as these that fail our children. He states,
we must take action against abuse and the cover-ups that follow it, (described as an) evil that has darkened so many lives...looking ahead to the future, no effort must be spared.
REPEAT: no effort must be spared. To prevent the possibility of their being covered up and perpetuated.
So many cases now prove the failings in our judicial system here in the UK beyond doubt, with even Pope Francis himself finally accepting and owning the shame his priests have brought across the RC community.
It is my opinion that it's about time so should the rest of the world!
I pray for Justice for the Innocence and perhaps with no effort spared, this article reaches Pope Francis so he can hear our appreciation. We are volunteers battling against a corrupt system with the hope that one less child is harmed from sexual abuse! We battle against a system trying to bring us down, hiding cases, rejecting evidence, cases not reaching court, courts making a mockery of the 'evil act' sending clear messages that sexual abuse against children is not a serious crime with lenient sentencing, if sentenced at all.
It's time for change!
So, thank you Pope Francis for finally owning and taking responsibility for your community against our children.
Here's to a future of change and if you believe in our cause as much as we do, please SHARE this article so that it reaches as many as possible.
You, our followers, are our community and we rely on you to help us spread our message. It's time everyone 'opens their ears!'
